Non Johannesburg, April 30, 2024:A subsidiary of FedEx (NYSE: FDX) and one of the world's largestexpress transportation companies, FedEx donated 200 bicycles andrepair kits to young people in underserved communities in ruralAfrica. In collaboration with charitable organizations, thesebicycles were donated to 17-19 year old children in a high schoolin the Uit č k region of South Africa.
According to statistics from theUNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), over one-fifth of primaryschool age children and nearly 60% of young people aged 15-17 insub Saharan Africa are out of school, partly due to a lack oftransportation to school. Even today, in many regions of Africa,children have to walk several miles every day, usually inchallenging conditions before they can go to school. The lack ofreliable transportation hinders their ability to fully participatein learning and affects their health, thereby limitingopportunities for personal and economic development.
